Motorists travelling between Camden and Wollondilly are set to benefit from a major safety upgrade, with the NSW Government committing $7 million to install traffic lights at the busy Wire Lane and Remembrance Driveway intersection.
The funding, announced by Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison alongside Camden MP Sally Quinnell and Wollondilly MP Judy Hannan, will improve safety and traffic flow along one of the region’s key transport corridors, used daily by thousands of commuters.
Camden Mayor Therese Fedeli welcomed the investment, saying it would make a real difference for local motorists.
“This is a welcome investment that will improve safety for motorists travelling through one of the key connections between Camden and Wollondilly,” she said.
Fedeli said continued investment in transport infrastructure was essential to keep pace with the rapid growth of south-west Sydney.
“Road safety and investment into critical transport corridors is a shared priority… We welcome the NSW Government’s commitment to improving road safety,” she added.
Wollondilly Mayor Cr Matt Gould said the new traffic lights would significantly improve safety for residents travelling into and out of the Shire via Camden.
“Traffic lights at the Wire Lane intersection will significantly increase safety at this location, benefitting Wollondilly residents heading in and out of the Shire through Camden,” he said.
Gould said the funding also highlighted the importance of ongoing advocacy for improvements to major regional roads, including the reclassification of Remembrance Driveway, Menangle Road and Silverdale Road.
The project is one of 83 road safety initiatives funded under the NSW Government’s Towards Zero Safer Roads Program, part of a broader $2.8 billion road safety commitment in the 2026–27 NSW Budget.
