Camden Council has celebrated a standout night at the Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT Awards of Excellence, taking home three major honours for community infrastructure, public open space and leadership.
The Nepean River Trail was crowned Park of the Year, the Oran Park Leisure Centre won Community Facility of the Year, and Council’s Coordinator Sport & Leisure Management, Marilyn Oliver, received the David Aldous Young Emerging Leader Award.
Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli said the triple success reflected Council’s commitment to creating outstanding community spaces.
“This is an incredible achievement for Camden and a testament to the vision, dedication and hard work of everyone involved,” she said.
The award-winning Nepean River Trail has transformed a 64-hectare river corridor into a 4.2-kilometre destination linking Camden Town Centre, Fergusons Reserve, Camden Town Farm and the Nepean River.
Featuring boardwalks, viewing platforms, public art and restored natural landscapes, it celebrates Camden’s heritage while encouraging recreation and connection with nature.
“The Nepean River Trail has become one of Camden’s most treasured destinations,” Fedeli said.
“To see it recognised as Park of the Year is a wonderful acknowledgement that belongs to our entire community.”
The Oran Park Leisure Centre was recognised for its innovation, accessibility and sustainability.
Since opening in October 2024, the $67 million facility has welcomed more than one million visits, becoming a major hub for sport, recreation and community wellbeing.
Marilyn Oliver was honoured for her leadership in delivering major community projects and championing equitable, sustainable parks and leisure services.
“Marilyn’s passion, expertise and dedication have helped shape projects that will benefit our community for generations to come,” Fedeli said.
“It’s a pleasure to have someone of her calibre on Team Camden.”
