Camden residents can rest easy, with assurances their local fire station is here to stay and a brand-new emergency vehicle now boosting frontline response capabilities.
Member for Camden Sally Quinnell said the station remains an essential service for the growing community.
“I know how much Camden Fire Station means for our area, employing brave staffers who provide Camden residents with the peace of mind to know there’s a service just around the corner, ready to help if needed,” Quinnell said.
The reassurance follows concerns raised by some residents about the future of Camden Fire Station.
Prior to the election of the Minns Labor Government in 2023, there was no guaranteed security for the station’s future.
In 2024, Minister for Emergency Services Jihad Dib confirmed the government had no plans to close Camden Fire Station or alter its staffing arrangements, a commitment that remains unchanged.
Further strengthening local emergency services, Camden Fire Station this week received a new pumper truck, the brigade’s primary emergency response vehicle.
The appliance carries firefighters, hoses, specialist equipment and a built-in water pump to emergencies across the region.
“These announcements reassure Camden residents that this service is not going anywhere,” Quinnell said.
The investment comes alongside broader support for firefighters, including a 14 per cent wage increase over three years, backdated to February 2024, and strengthened presumptive cancer protections for emergency service personnel.
The measures are designed to ensure firefighters who put themselves in harm’s way for the community receive support when they need it most.
Quinnell also thanked locals who contacted her office about the station’s future.
“Thank you to the residents who have taken the time to write to me, expressing concerns for the future of Camden Fire Station,” she said.
“It’s great to know we have such a dedicated, tight-knit community, and that we’re always looking out for one another.”
