Camden Council is maintaining the push to see the long-awaited Camden Bypass Extension become a reality, welcoming new planning funding while urging governments to keep the project moving.
At its June Ordinary Council Meeting, Council formally congratulated the State and Federal Governments on their investment and reaffirmed its commitment to the project through its The Time Is Now advocacy campaign.
Mayor of Camden Therese Fedeli said the funding commitment marked an important milestone for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
“Residents across Camden know all too well the frustration of increasing traffic congestion and longer travel times, so this planning commitment is welcome news for our community,” she said.
Fedeli said the Camden Bypass Extension had long been one of Council’s highest advocacy priorities because it would improve connectivity, ease pressure on the existing road network and support the area’s continued growth.
“Importantly, this investment acknowledges what our community has been saying for years – our infrastructure must keep pace with our population growth,” she said.
Fedeli also congratulated both levels of government for committing funding to progress planning and thanked Member for Camden Sally Quinnell for her advocacy in helping secure the commitment.
The proposed extension is expected to improve traffic flow and road safety along key transport corridors, including Camden Bypass, Narellan Road, The Northern Road and Camden Valley Way, while strengthening connections for residents in Spring Farm, Elderslie and West Camden.
