The Australia Day awards always remind us of the one ultimate winner: our community.
This morning was no exception as Campbelltown Council acknowledged its citizens for the various ways in which they enrich our multicultural community fabric.
From saving our koalas and long SES service to commitment to netball, caring for the homeless, and mentoring migrants, the stories told from the lectern were nothing short of inspiring.
Commending all the nominees for their hard work and community spirit, Mayor of Campbelltown George Greiss said, “you have together made Campbelltown a better place to live”.
Samantha Oakes was awarded Campbelltown’s Citizen of the Year for establishing The Formal Project which gives children in Years 6, 10 and 12 an opportunity to attend their end of year school formals properly fitted and dressed.
Congratulations to the other winners:
- Young Citizen of the Year – Hayleigh Keogh
- Senior Citizen of the Year – Ian Shepherd
- Sports Award – Angela Jean Fowler
- Community Group Initiative of the Year – Eden College
- Environmental Citizen of the Year – Rita Mikolaitis
Dr Greiss was delighted to welcome Junior International Athletics champion Bryce Collins as Campbelltown’s 2024 Australia Day Ambassador.
