In a major boost for vulnerable households, CatholicCare Diocese of Wollongong has been chosen to deliver the NSW Government’s Families Together program across Macarthur and the Southern Highlands targeting early intervention to keep children safely at home.
The initiative, part of sweeping family preservation reforms led by the NSW Government, aims to stop crises before they escalate.
It will provide up to 12 months of intensive, in-home support for families facing domestic violence, substance abuse, housing instability and financial stress.
“Families don’t experience challenges in isolation,” said CEO Michael Austin, underscoring the program’s holistic approach.
“Families Together allows us to walk alongside families… and stay with them long enough to create meaningful and lasting change.”
With Macarthur’s rapid population growth and the Southern Highlands’ service access gaps, the need is urgent.
CatholicCare’s selection reflects its “trusted relationships” and ability to deliver flexible, wraparound care available even after hours, when families need it most.
“At its heart, this work is about dignity, trust and hope. It’s about supporting parents, keeping children safe and strengthening families…,” Austin added.
Services are set to roll out later this year, marking a significant step toward earlier support, stronger families and fewer children entering out-of-home care.
