Campbelltown’s Diane Latham has been crowned the 2026 South Western Sydney/Macarthur Volunteer of the Year, recognised for helping ensure older residents are not left behind in an increasingly digital world.

The President of Campbelltown Senior Cyber Seekers received the region’s top volunteering honour at the NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards at Campbelltown Catholic Club.

Latham dedicates her time to helping seniors build computer literacy and digital skills, allowing them to navigate technology more safely and confidently. She also carries the responsibility of running the organisation, including its finances and governance.

The Centre for Volunteering CEO Gemma Rygate said the awards recognised people whose contribution strengthens communities across the region.

“Volunteers help build strong and healthy communities across the state,” she said.

“They are always there when we need them most, giving their time and support across all areas of life including health, emergency services, education and community sectors.”

Three other local awards highlighted the breadth of volunteering across Macarthur and South Western Sydney.

St Andrews’ Erjin Son was named Young Volunteer of the Year for her work as a Keeper Volunteer with Taronga Conservation Society Australia, where she has become a role model and mentor for fellow volunteers.

Mount Annan’s Marion Stanton received Adult Volunteer of the Year for her work with the Autism Community Network at Camden, facilitating peer support, social groups and activities that create greater inclusion and connection for adults with autism and their families.

The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan Herbarium Mounting Room Volunteers were named Volunteer Team of the Year. The 40-member team contributed an extraordinary 3,700 hours last year, mounting 8,000 dried plant specimens for digitisation, scientific research and preservation in the National Herbarium of New South Wales.

NSW Minister with responsibility for Volunteering Jodie Harrison congratulated the winners.

“From the bush to the sea, volunteers are the true heartbeat of our communities. Thank you for your invaluable contributions. You make New South Wales the best state to live in,” she said.

The regional winners will now be invited to represent South Western Sydney/Macarthur at the NSW Volunteer of the Year State Gala Award Ceremony later this year.
