Resilient Residents is a community empowerment program aimed at educating residents about local risks and disasters, such as bushfires, and providing them with essential skills to deal with potential challenges.

Run by Campbelltown City Council, the program, spanning three weeks, will feature sessions led by representatives from emergency services like the New South Wales State Emergency Service, Fire & Rescue New South Wales, and the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

Participants will learn about accessing emergency information online, home fire safety, bushfire season risks, and more.

“With the help of the emergency services involved, this program aims to arm our residents with the knowledge and resources necessary to create a more connected and resilient community.” Mayor of Campbelltown George Greiss said.

“With the Resilient Residents program, we’re hoping to help those in our community who need a little assistance in navigating what’s available, how to access it, and most importantly, how to best utilise it.”

Participants will also have the opportunity to download relevant applications on their personal devices.

The program will be held across the library network, starting from May 20 for four weeks at Glenquarie Library as follows:

Week 1: Tech Introduction. Our library technology team will take you through how to download the relevant apps and how to access these on your smart phone.

Week 2: Understanding Your Risk – Part 1. Meet with the SES and discover your risk factors here in Campbelltown.

Week 3: Understanding Your Risk – Part 2. Get the low down from Fire Rescue NSW about your fire risk.

Week 4: Understanding Your Risk – Part 3. Make sure your bushfire emergency plan is up to date with the Rural Fire Service.
