Families across Australia can collect a free ‘Reindeer Carrot’ from a designated collection point when exiting their Coles store, ready to leave out on Christmas Eve for Santa’s hard-working reindeer.
Five Aussie growers from across the country have donated 50 tonnes of carrots to fuel Santa’s reindeers for the big day, available in stores from today until Christmas Eve (Saturday 24th December).
Alongside spreading the joy, the donation of carrots will help to reduce food waste in the lead up to Christmas, with growers donating surplus stock that may be a little wonky or blemished and would otherwise be destined for waste or used for food processing.
Coles Business Category Manager for Vegetables, Tim Nitschke, said Coles is pleased to be able to bring back this instore initiative for the second year running.
“Offering free reindeer carrots is a great way that we can help repurpose food and reduce waste in the lead up to Christmas,” Mr Nitschke said.
“These carrots also provide a fantastic opportunity to spread Christmas spirit to our customers and their families and kids excited for Christmas Day.”
