With the Glenfield Lions now ready to roar, football lovers in the area are thrilled that they finally have their very own club based at Blinman Oval.
The seed to form Glenfield Lions FC was planted one evening in 2021 when four friends, Bellal Jaber, Ali Khalil, Moustafa Assaf and Mustafa Khalil, began chatting about the need to create a positive sport environment for young children of their community.
“We’ve been living in Campbelltown district for the last 20 years. So seeing kids, watching the news, what’s happening in the area and other areas, we decided to form a club just to occupy kids in a positive way with their a families, keep them out of trouble you know,” Bellal Jaber told Good Morning Macarthur.
On the hunt for a venue, Mr Jaber and his friends approached Campbelltown City Council and were encouraged by the positive response they received from Tiana Maric and Patrick Williams.
“However there wasn’t anywhere they could immediately offer us and we were asked to wait,” Mr Jaber said.
The friends continued planning in hope with Macarthur Football Association’s Salv Carmusciano and were thrilled when this year, the club was actually offered a home at Blinman Oval.
“It’s really an ideal location because there’s nothing in the area; the nearest clubs are at Macquarie Fields and Ingleburn,” Mr Jaber said.
The club’s coaching staff is made up of both volunteers and instructors who have experience working with young children and athletes.
Glenfield Lions FC welcomes families and players from all backgrounds, cultures and gender who wish to build and develop their football skills and love of the game.
The club is accepting registrations for Under 6s and Under 11s teams at Blinman Oval on this Saturday 25th from 10am to 12noon.
