Nathan Hagarty, the Member for Leppington, has initiated a petition urging Liverpool City Council to expedite the long-promised upgrade of Edmondson Avenue in Austral.

This crucial north-south road was supposed to be transformed from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane local road, improving traffic flow and safety with new intersections.

Although $59 million was allocated in 2021 to complete the project by June 2024, no progress has been made.

Mr Hagarty hit the nail squarely on the head when he said that administrative chaos and bureaucratic delays should never put community safety at risk.

“Council has been sitting on tens of millions of dollars to complete this upgrade but not a single sod has been turned,” he said.

“The people of Austral have waited long enough. It’s time for Liverpool City Council to prioritise our safety and get on with the upgrade of Edmondson Avenue.”

Mr Hagarty’s petition, which has already garnered hundreds of signatures, highlights the community’s frustration with the delays and emphasizes the risks posed to residents’ safety.

He calls for immediate action from the Council to begin the upgrade, stressing the urgency due to frequent accidents near local schools and retirement villages.
