Camden audiences are in for a colourful, feel-good theatrical treat this June as Camden Musical Society brings a fresh new take on the timeless musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the stage.
Blending infectious music, vibrant choreography and a healthy dose of 1970s nostalgia, the production reimagines Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s much-loved classic through a bold and playful new lens.
“With an overarching nod to the 1970s and some of the decade’s most iconic characters, this vibrant new production promises to deliver the timeless story through a fresh and unique lens,” said Camden Musical Society President Kerrie Jiear.
A cast of almost 40 performers, aged from seven to 70, brings the biblical story of Joseph to life. The musical follows the dreamer whose gift of foresight sparks jealousy among his brothers, setting him on an extraordinary journey from slavery to triumph.
Packed with iconic songs including Any Dream Will Do, Go Go Go Joseph and Close Every Door, the show blends pop, rock, country and calypso influences into a joyous celebration of hope, perseverance and family.
Exactly which version of Joseph audiences we will see remains part of the fun, since like his famous coat, this musical has come in many colours over the decades. Since its humble beginnings as a 1968 pop cantata, Andrew Lloyd Webber has continually reinvented the musical, adding everything from audience-singalong megamixes and extended dance sequences to soaring brass arrangements and ever-bigger theatrical flourishes.
“A beloved family favourite, this spectacular show is packed with crowd-pleasing songs, toe-tapping numbers, and a feel-good message that resonates with people from all walks of life,” Jiear said.
For Head of Marketing Inge Marais, the production’s greatest strength lies in its ability to bring generations together.
“This show is pure joy. From the incredible music to the vibrant choreography and the heartwarming message of hope and resilience, Joseph is a musical that truly has something for everyone,” she said.

Running at the Camden Civic Centre from 12 to 21 June, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat promises plenty of musical fun for audiences of all ages.
