A deeply personal story spanning three generations of women will take centre stage at Campbelltown Arts Centre this September with the world premiere of My First and Last Solo Show.

Created by acclaimed Western Sydney artist Natalie Rose and produced by Performing Lines, the warm, witty work began as Rose’s attempt to create a solo performance — until her daughter Mabelle stepped into the rehearsal room.

“When Mabelle turned 12, I realised how young I was when major events in my own childhood began,” Rose said.

“I wanted to create something extraordinary for her”.

What followed became an intimate mother-daughter collaboration exploring memory, motherhood, family, intergenerational trauma and love.

Blending live performance, family archives and recorded voices, the production follows three generations : Natalie, Mabelle and Natalie’s mother Cheryl.

“Working with Mabelle has been incredibly beautiful and so much fun. We love being silly together, challenging each other and making things together. Watching her grow through this process has been remarkable,” Rose said.

Developed over several years, the work took on even greater significance following Cheryl’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, bringing memory, loss and legacy sharply into focus.

Yet at its heart is a celebration of the small, everyday moments that bind families together.

“I think this show is for anyone who has a mum, is a mum, or has ever loved someone deeply,” Rose said.

“Sometimes the moments we remember most aren’t the big ones. They might just be a trip through the drive-thru together. And that’s kind of beautiful.”

Campbelltown Arts Centre Director Mouna Zaylah said the Western Sydney premiere would resonate widely.

“Funny, heartfelt and deeply relatable, it’s a celebration of family, love and resilience that will strike a chord with audiences across all generations and experiences,” Zaylah said.

My First and Last Solo Show plays at Campbelltown Arts Centre on September 18 at 1pm and 7.30pm, and September 19 at 1pm and 7.30pm.
