Commuters remain in a limbo as promises for more parking across Macarthur remain just that: promises.

In 2019, the federal government announced $30 million for 1000 new car parking spaces at Campbelltown and Macarthur stations in response to Labor’s commitment to upgrade local commuter carparks at the last election.
Federal Member for Macarthur Dr Mike Freelander MP points out that at the end of March, the Government had commenced work on just 5 of the promised commuter carpark upgrades nationally, with their commitments in Macarthur remaining unmet.

Findings from the Australian National Audit Office’s report into the Coalition’s bungled Urban Congestion Fund suggest why: “The department has not had sufficiently strong controls in place to establish, for each approved project, clear delivery timelines and links between payments and milestones.”

“Much like their track record on Appin Road, the Government has now been caught out overpromising and under-delivering when it comes to urgently needed infrastructure for our rapidly growing area,” Dr Freelander said.

Don’t we deserve better?
