“With more families choosing to call Austral home, parents deserve confidence that their children can attend a high-quality public school close to where they live.”

That’s the message from Member for Leppington Nathan Hagarty as the NSW Government announced a brand-new public high school and primary school for Austral as part of a record $9.2 billion investment in school infrastructure across NSW.

The new Austral High School and Austral South Primary School, which will include a co-located public preschool, form part of a historic $4.1 billion commitment to new and upgraded schools across Western Sydney.

Hagarty described the investment as “a landmark commitment to public education in Western Sydney” that will create modern learning environments for thousands of local students.

“It will deliver a new public primary school and high school for the area, creating modern learning environments for thousands of local students,” he said.

The announcement comes as South West Sydney continues to experience rapid population growth. Across the region, new and upgraded schools funded through the 2026-27 NSW Budget will provide permanent capacity for more than 13,500 students, including 650 new classrooms that will replace more than 100 ageing demountables.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Prue Car said the Budget marked a shift from addressing years of underinvestment to planning for the future.

“Families want world-class public schools close to where they live, with less time spent commuting and a restored confidence in an improved public education system,” she said.

Treasurer Daniel Mookey added, ““This record $9.2 billion investment unlocks the life-changing benefits of a quality education. Benefits that should be within reach, regardless of postcode.”

Hagarty said the announcement was the result of ongoing advocacy from local families and community representatives.

“I’m proud to have worked alongside local families to advocate for these investments, and it’s fantastic to see that advocacy turning into real projects that will benefit our community for years to come,” he added.

The investment forms part of the NSW Government’s broader program to deliver 260 new and upgraded schools and public preschools across NSW.
