Residents of Wollondilly Electorate (Wollondilly and the Southern Highlands) are encouraged to celebrate the positive role seniors play in the community by nominating them for the 2024 NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Awards.

Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan said the festival and the awards celebrated the vast contributions and achievements seniors made across the region.

“If you know a senior who helps make our community diverse, inspiring and active, then I encourage you to nominate them for acknowledgement of their contribution,” she said.

Winners of the Local Achievement Awards will be announced during the NSW Seniors Festival which runs from 11 – 24 March.

“By highlighting seniors’ continued efforts in helping themselves thrive, we are continuing to challenge ageism and empower seniors to overcome social stigmas,” Ms Hannan said.

The awards program is part of an exciting schedule of events across the state.

A star-studded line up will headline this year’s Premier’s Gala Concerts to be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Darling Harbour on Wednesday 13 March and Thursday 14 March 2024, with two performances each day at 11am and 2.45pm.

The gala concerts will feature chart-topping singer Paulini, Opera Australia principal soprano Julie Lea Goodwin, broadcaster and Australian Idol 2006 winner Damien Leith, and country music favourite Darren Coggan.

They will be live-streamed for seniors who are unable to attend in person.

Next door to the Premier’s Gala Concerts, this year’s Seniors Expo will feature more than 75 exhibitors.

Exhibits include a tech zone for tips and tricks on using mobile devices, a live stage with talks and performances, cooking demonstrations, a sports zone to try out table tennis, basketball and gymnastics, and a workshop where the Australian Men’s Shed Association will be building a cubby house.

There will also be an art demonstration related to the Seniors Expo theme, “Reach Beyond”.

Free tickets for the performances will be available on the NSW Seniors Festival website from 9am on Tuesday 23 January 2024 at https://seniorsfestival.info/galaconcert

“This annual festival is about celebrating the positive impact of older people in our families and society,” Ms Hannan said.

Nomination forms for the Local Achievement Awards can be completed online, downloaded from the website https://www.judyhannan.com.au/seniors_week or picked up at Judy Hannan’s electorate office in Tahmoor.
