Plans to significantly expand Oran Park Town Centre have taken a major step forward, with Camden Council endorsing proposals designed to bring more businesses, jobs and services to the rapidly growing community.
The plans could unlock around 100,000 square metres of additional commercial floor space, while allowing taller buildings in selected parts of the town centre.
“Oran Park is an award-winning masterplanned community and its growth isn’t over yet,” Camden Mayor Cr Therese Fedeli said.
Council endorsed both a Planning Proposal and draft amendments to the Oran Park Precinct Development Control Plan, following an independent assessment which found the proposal had strategic and site-specific merit.
“It’s important we plan ahead to ensure the town centre can meet the needs of our community now and in the future,” Fedeli said.
She said future development must also be matched by essential infrastructure, with Council continuing to push the NSW Government for major transport investment.
“Council will continue to strongly advocate to the NSW Government for critical transport infrastructure, including the full North South Metro line and upgrades to the surrounding road network, to ensure Camden remains connected and supported,” Fedeli added.
The endorsement does not mean the expansion has been approved. The proposal will now be sent to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for Gateway Determination.
If it receives the green light, the plans will go on public exhibition, allowing residents to have their say before any final decision is made.
