Back after a COVID-restrictions-induced hiatus, the 15th Annual NSW Pacific Awards honoured the outstanding achievements of our Pacifica communities at a glittering evening at Ottimo House.
“These awards came about after a conversation with a young person years ago who asked me why the only portrayal of us in the media is negative when we have amazing creatives, entertainers and academics of pacific backgrounds as well,” said Mal Fruean, Chairperson of the NSW Council for Pacific Communities and the lady behind the awards.
“So we started the awards in a small way with 30 nominees and under 100 guests. And look at it today, over 150 nominees and a packed room of guests!”
Guests included the NSW Minister for Multiculturism Mark Coure, Campbelltown MP Greg Warren, Macquarie Fields MP Anoulack Chanthivong, Camden MP Peter Sidgreaves, Blacktown’s Mayor Tony Bleasedale, Campbelltown’s Deputy Mayor Warren Morrison and Councillors from across Sydney.
