Residents are invited to help plant 1,000 native trees as Camden Council marks the 30th anniversary of Planet Ark’s National Tree Day with a community planting event on Sunday 26 July.
“National Tree Day is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to get their hands dirty, connect with nature and make a lasting contribution to our local environment,” said Camden Mayor Therese Fedeli.
The event will be held from 9am to 12pm at Ferguson’s Land, within the riparian corridor beside the newly opened Nepean River Arts Trail. Volunteers will plant a mix of River-flat Eucalypt Forest species, helping restore a critically endangered ecological community while creating vital habitat for native wildlife and pollinators.
“Every tree planted helps create a healthier environment for future generations, while also bringing people together for a great community cause,” Fedeli said.
The planting site is one of Camden’s premier birdwatching locations and forms part of ongoing restoration works along Matahil Creek and the Nepean River corridor, improving biodiversity and strengthening wildlife habitat.
As a thank you, volunteers will receive a free sausage sandwich, a coffee or cold drink, and a free native bushtucker plant to take home.
