For many locals who grew up around Campbelltown in the 1970s, the Downes Department Store on Queen Street was a place woven into everyday life. The building later of course became known as Spotlight Plaza and in its current avataar as Downtown Plaza, houses Campbelltown’s library.
Those shared memories were recently celebrated with the unveiling of a historical photo display and two commemorative plaques recognising the site’s place in Campbelltown’s story.
