After years of frustration, the long-awaited missing link between Spring Farm and Menangle Park has taken a major step forward, with the proposed design for Spring Farm Parkway Stage 2 finally released.

The three-kilometre, four-lane extension would complete the east-west corridor from Menangle Road and the Hume Motorway through Spring Farm to the Camden Bypass ending what locals have long criticised as a road that simply stops.

“Our community was promised a road that would connect the suburbs of Menangle Park and Spring Farm, only to be left with a road that stops at a dead end in an empty field,” Camden MP Sally Quinnell said.

The Federal and NSW Governments have committed $15 million to planning and design, with the proposed design and Review of Environmental Factors now on public exhibition.

Currently, motorists cannot travel directly from Spring Farm Parkway into Spring Farm and are forced onto Narellan Road, adding time and distance to journeys while increasing pressure on one of the region’s busiest corridors.

Stage 1 opened in August 2024, but Stage 2 was not funded or progressed by the former NSW Government.

NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said the unfinished link had left the growing community short-changed.

“The former Liberal-National Government built half a road and called it done, leaving a community with a road that leads to nowhere and putting more pressure on the surrounding road network,” she said.

Federal Member for Macarthur Dr Mike Freelander described the release of the design as “a major milestone in improving southwest Sydney’s road network for years to come.”

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren said the proposal would deliver the connection residents had been promised.

“The proposed design for Spring Farm Parkway Stage 2 does what it says on the tin, delivering the connection the people of South West Sydney were promised long ago,” he said.

Deputy Premier Prue Car said southwest Sydney had “waited long enough for the roads it was promised”, while Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said progressing Stage 2 would help provide families in Menangle Park and Spring Farm with a safer and more efficient link to the Hume Highway.

The community can now have its say on the proposed design before it is finalised at https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/current-projects/spring-farm-parkway-stage-2

While the $15 million commitment progresses planning, funding to actually build Stage 2 has not yet been committed, with construction funding to be considered through future Budget processes.
