A busy Holsworthy road used daily by families heading to school and swimming lessons will receive more than $300,000 in Federal Government funding for safety improvements.
“It’s great to see Holsworthy get its fair share of funding for local road safety upgrades,” Federal Member for Hughes David Moncrieff said.
The Federal Government will provide $302,110 towards safety improvements on Huon Crescent, between Bardia Parade and Infantry Parade, under its Black Spot Program.
“Huon Crescent is a key road used by Holsworthy families taking their kids to school and swimming. This will improve safety for drivers and pedestrians in our community,” Moncrieff said.
The road provides access to Holsworthy Public School and Holsworthy Aquatic Centre, but has been the subject of significant safety concerns.
“There have been multiple serious pedestrian and vehicle crashes recorded, and long stretches of the road have inadequate crossing areas to access Holsworthy Public School and the aquatic centre,” Moncrieff added.
The Holsworthy project is among 82 sites across NSW sharing $45.1 million in the latest Black Spot Program funding round.
The Federal Government has increased annual funding for the program to $150 million, targeting locations with a history of crashes or identified road safety risks.
Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain said the improvements would help reduce serious crashes.
“The safety improvements at these Black Spot sites will help reduce the risk of serious crashes and increase the likelihood of people getting to their destination safely,” she said.
Individuals, community groups and councils can nominate dangerous locations for consideration under future Black Spot Program funding rounds.
