To represent my community in the Australian Parliament is a tremendous privilege, and one I have never taken for granted. The position involves a great deal of listening to the community and trying to understand their concerns.
I know these are difficult and challenging times for many in my great community.
I hear the concerns and I am acutely aware of the impact that the conflict in the Middle East is having on the people I represent.
The loss of life has been horrendous, and I know has caused grief and horror to many people in Werriwa.
I have consistently called for an immediate ceasefire and for aid to flow into Gaza, including the $72.5million of aid that the Australian Government has committed to the region.
I was proud to vote yesterday to endorse the Government’s position to support the recognition of the State of Palestine as part of a peace process and in support of a two- state solution and a just and enduring peace.
I will continue to advocate for this position publicly and inside the Australian Government.
As Member for Werriwa and a member of the Australian Government, I will continue as I have always done: listen, try to understand the position of everyone I meet, and represent the full diversity of Werriwa to the best of my ability.
