Campbelltown residents are being urged to pause before throwing away household waste as Council launches a new campaign aimed at improving recycling and reducing landfill.
The Take A Minute Before You Bin It campaign encourages residents to take a moment to choose the correct bin, reinforcing that small everyday actions can have a lasting environmental impact.
Recent household bin audits found around one in four items placed in recycling bins shouldn’t be there, while 8% of waste sent to landfill could have been recycled.
Mayor Darcy Lound said the campaign recognises that waste disposal is often an automatic part of daily life.
“Life is busy, and for most of us, using our household bin is just another part of our daily routine. This campaign is about encouraging everyone to take a moment before they put something in the bin, because one small moment to pause can make a big difference,” he said.
Rather than focusing on mistakes, the campaign highlights the collective impact of simple positive choices.
“When thousands of people each take a minute to choose the right bin, those small actions add up. Together we can reduce waste to landfill, recover more valuable resources and build a more sustainable Campbelltown,” Lound added.
The campaign will feature on Council’s new waste collection trucks, digital platforms, community events and across the city over the coming months.
Council’s Resource Recovery and Waste team will also host community pop-up sessions to help residents better understand what belongs in each bin.
