For St Patrick’s College for Girls graduate Riya Varghese, a series of free online study sessions helped take some of the uncertainty out of preparing for the HSC.

Now studying a Bachelor of Business at Western Sydney University, the Campbelltown graduate took part in Western’s HSC Study Sessions in 2025 and says the experience left her better prepared and more confident heading into her final exams.

“The most valuable part was the exam-focused guidance, as the teachers were able to break down difficult concepts and explain how to approach questions effectively, as well as provide practical exam strategies,” Riya said.

“The online delivery also made the sessions accessible and convenient, allowing me to easily take notes, ask questions through the online Q&A and access additional resources.”

This year, Western Sydney University is bringing the free program back, offering Year 12 students across NSW 22 online sessions covering 14 key HSC subject areas from Monday 28 September to Friday 7 October.

Students will have access to experienced senior teachers, practice exams and deconstruction sessions, content analysis, exam strategies and detailed guidance across key syllabus areas.

The subjects include Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Community and Family Studies, English Advanced and Standard, Health and Movement Science, Legal Studies, Mathematics Advanced and Standard, Modern History, Physics, Studies of Religion I and Visual Arts.

Students can also take part in a Q&A session and a UNI101: Introduction to University session covering university life, degrees, career options, alternative pathways, scholarships and support services.

Western Sydney University Director of Domestic Student Recruitment Kellie Burke said the program had been supporting Year 12 students for 16 years.

“For the past 16 years, this program has helped equip Year 12 students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to approach their exams. We know the months ahead can feel both exciting and overwhelming and we want students to know that they don’t have to navigate this period alone.” said Mrs Burke.

The sessions are offered in partnership with education provider InspirationED, whose team includes experienced HSC teachers and markers.
